There was always an asterisk at the end of kill target creature, whether it was a restriction on what you could kill, not being able to always kill what you wanted to kill, or a bunch of crap that happened after you killed it

To balance this out WotC intentionally made all of these unique cards rather underpowered so that there would never be a bottleneck for tournament play from needing planeswalker deck-exclusive cards

I may also be slightly biased toward this Esper commander because artist Cristi Balanescu created one of the cutest birds in all of Magic
