The lid fits onto the pegs around the lip of the box--constructed of old wooden fruit crates--to lock into place

but must say I think this is a pretty great one

There is a bit of paint lots and a bit of minor tearing

The chain measures 21 1/4" long x approx 1" wide and deep and is in excellent condition

I love the ambling trail of brass nails around the sides and back of this one, forming itself into hearts as it, and then one more on the toe and two on the sliding lid. Also, the extra longgg toe!
