I think the design-- executed in low relief and glazed a lighter brown--is just terrific

in Japanese--made of native clay and known for its bold designs

but painted on card

with alternating bands of red and gold

These two were obviously for cutting gloves—one sized 9 1/2

It is the work of Conrad Fehn (b. 1891), a German born Dutch metalworker and artist, who opened a studio in Haarlem around 1917, where he produced a wide range of mostly metal objects (most often in copper) including sculptures, plaques, lamps, trays, and boxes.
