I believe this box dates to the late 19th or very early 20th century

Essentially the same on both sides

This and the rest from what I understand came from a  sketchbook of drawings Malta did in the 1930s or so

The interior compartment on this one seems a bit small for that

He's all of 4 1 8 inches tall, but has a great presence, too. The details nothing more than is needed but is exactly what is lend him a buttoned up suit, tucked tie, and arms clasped behind his back, making me wonder if he isn't meant to represent a butler?
