It is signed (incised) on the bottom

with original silvery-white painted decoration more pronounced on the left side but equally satisfying at right where it combines with the red orange of rust and whatever else

and perhaps a bit scared

SOLD 1880s Monogrammed Tin Painter's Box with Palette, Brushes, and Watercolor Tin old wood Porter (active 1810-1830)Found at a crazy old antique junk shop in central MA on my way back from Brimfield (where it might have been sitting for years) and listed exactly as I found it. Handpainted monogram FHB in excellent silver lettering on the lid of painter's box,and the box with a patent date of what looks to me to read 1884. Happily with this great old wooden palette still inside, which slides into a front opening compartment or can be laid flat on top the tray
