I especially love the horse--in original paint I believe
one sees wooden folk animals of this sort on green bases around from time to time but with variation among them so I think perhaps they were made according to plans
and the front cover features an image of "Ramona's House" I believe inspired by Helen Hunt Jackson's popular Victorian novel "Ramona
2 7/8" long x 3/4" wide x 1" tall and in great condition
I like it as much as any slate painting I've seen
The Champion, Boy in Back Yard with Raised Fists and Protruding Ribs, c. 1940s Snapshot Simms drawing I especially love the horse--inLots rolled up in this one for me, from the freedom of backyard play to aspirations toward masculine ideals to the simultaneous joy, assertiveness, and vulnerability embedded in his raised arms gesture and the exposure of chest and jutting rib cage. And the setting composition, fluttery leaves behind him and spiky ones running in a diagonal to frame his leg, is just right. 4 3 8" x 2 13 16". Very good condition.
