as I think each has its own distinct personality

with some traces of an aqua blue on top that seem a bit inexplicable--not jumping out

All carved of one piece of wood with tight slide opening constructed just like spruce gum box, and it seems quite possible it is (including for being found in inland Maine), though it's fairly uncommon to see one of those entirely paint decorated rather that decorated through carving, so I'm not sure.
