but finding this little wall box yesterday made an outing that otherwise turned up very little worth the trip--I love this thing

had it archivally matted

and then at the bow a nicely carved cleat to round things out

Primitively Carved, Jointed Man with Great Face victorian era courting (I have no idea howLove at first sight with this guy, who lost the toe on one foot along the way and looks perhaps to have once gripped something with one hand, but otherwise is very much better for his age and is very amenable to posing all sorts of ways, including standing up straight on his own. It's his face I love most, with these two very deep holes for the eyes, looking as if burrowed out with an old square nail, and the fainter suggestion of a large, wide nose
